People Scowling at You?  Look into the Mirror

A bad tempered report / colleague is a tell-tale sign for a manager that all’s not well. The downside is your team member(s) doesn’t like the way you manage things. You need to introspect. When the ride turns bumpy, the car, and not the road, is checked. In the work scenario, the things are a bit different though. Here, we have a go at others and get away.

Blaming Others

Blaming others is the easiest escape route. By doing this we get a false pride that we are better. That could cover the rot but doesn’t cure.

The Signs

Behaviour is the index of dislikes or otherwise of employees. Some common signs of dislike can be summarized thus:

The Reasons

Understanding the reasons is the first step towards the problem solution. Some of the reasons, on the manager’s part, could be:

  • Micromanaging.
  • Unconscious biases.
  • Lack of empathy.
  • Incorrect judgement of talents.
  • Discrimination.

The Solution

  • Introspection Check your biases.
  • Build trust.
  • Open Dialogues.
  • Impress on healthier working relationships.
  • Jointly explore alternatives.
  • Agree to disagree.

Conclusion

Whether the problem lies with you or the employees, the matter needs to be quickly identified and excised. After all the team’s success is the collective effort.
